Deep breaths…1…1…2…3…5…8… Nothing is ever as bad as it seems. At least, that’s what people say. Things can only get better, right? Not worse? Because at this point, the point in being around seems to have lost all meaning. No matter how hard I try, everything goes wrong. Ignore her, they say. Well, I did. And look how that turned out. You know what? Screw you and your theories. I don’t need them. I have my numbers…13…21…34… Numbers make everything better. When nothing makes sense, numbers still come in a logical order. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… Something which comes before or after. 1, 11, 121, 1331, 14641… Another thing which is set. Set: A grouping of several numbers, usually enclosed within {}. Even random number generators aren’t truly random, like the events of life. Eventually, the generator establishes a pattern, due to the coding behind it. It might take a while, but it will eventually have a pattern to it.
Sometimes, it is easier to get lost in thoughts. It’s even easier to get lost in the numbers…3, 6, 9, 12. They are the best distraction in the world…10, 20, 30… Even art and writing do not surpass them. Yet, here I am, explaining to a completely unknown, likely nonexistent, audience my logics and thinking processes. Like anyone out there actually cares…55… Without numbers, I probably would already be sick due to stress. 89.
Yesterday, when I was upset, I realized something simple, but over looked. All of the 3 digit numbers with the same number in each place are divisible by three. 111/3 = 37…222/3 = 74…333/3 = 111…444/3 = 146…555/3 = 185…666/3 = 222…777/3 = 259…888/3 = 296…999/3 = 333… See what I mean? I don’t know why I haven’t realized it before. After all, what’s the rule for finding out divisibility by three? Add the digits, and if that number is divisible by three, then the entire number is divisible. Funny thing is, add the same thing three times, and it will definitely be divisible by three.
There. Now everyone on the worldwide web can have a glance inside my head. How I think when I’m upset. I think of a sequence of numbers and continue it until I feel better. No calculator – it is more distraction when every single number has to be vary carefully thought about.
A guide to the sequences I mentioned, in order of appearance:
The Fibonacci Numbers – The last two numbers are added to get the next number.
Counting Numbers – Most know these without a definition, so I won’t bother you with one.
The Powers of Eleven – Starting with eleven to the zeroeth power. I use Pascal’s Triangle in my head to get them.
Counting by Threes – Just that.
Counting by Tens – Yup.
I use all of these when I get stressed out, moving from one to another when the numbers get too high to track in my head.
